Police have confirmed an eight-year-old girl has been found hanged in her bedroom in Nottinghamshire.
A statement from Nottinghamshire police said officers were contacted at around 09:15 BST on Saturday morning and the girl's body subsequently found.
A post mortem has since given her cause of death as death by hanging and officers from the force's Public Protection Unit are now working with social workers to discover how the incident occurred.
The girls parents were both questioned under caution, but no-one has been arrested.
A five-year-old boy who was living at the address has been taken into local authority care, police confirmed.
The address was sealed until Sunday morning to allow forensic tests to take place.
Detective Superintendent Adrian Pearson, head of Nottinghamshire police's Public Protection Unit, said: "We are investigating the full circumstances of this death with our colleagues at children and young people's services.
"The inquiry is at a very early stage, and it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at present."
