South African Ernie Els has insisted that he is confident going into the BMW Championship at Wentworth tomorrow.
The 36-year-old helped to redesign the Wentworth course, making the holes longer with the aim of producing a more challenging course.
Els will be hoping that this knowledge will give him the edge and help him get over the inconsistency which has blighted his game since he returned from a knee injury at the back end of last year.
"Physically my swing, putting and chipping feels good and I've played a lot worse golf in my career and won tournaments," Els said.
"I've been doing a lot of work, especially the last two months and the swing is starting to feel really good and I think I'm there."
The changes Els has helped make to the course have been praised by fellow competitors, including last year's winner Angel Cabrera and Jose Maria Olazabal.
However, while the Spaniard has backed the facelift given to the course, he admits that he is feeling rusty ahead of the tournament.
"I think Ernie has done a pretty good job at it, no complaints at all, as they've widened the fairways, which is fair, but it's a tougher test, that's for sure," Olazabal said.
"I'm feeling really rusty as I played the last two weeks at home and I haven't hit the ball well to be honest, which I'm really concerned about.
Olazabal hasn't played for five weeks prior to the BMW Championships, with his last appearance being at the Verizon Heritage where he missed the cut.
