Jockey Tony McCoy has been given the all-clear by his doctor to return to racing at the forthcoming Cheltenham Festival.
The 12-time champion has been out of action since falling from Arnold Layne in Januarys Classic Chase at Warwick.
However, his surgeon is confident that the extensive treatment he has received, which has included regular sessions of Kriotheraphy where he has been subjected to temperatures of around minus 130 degrees, has been sufficient to allow him to maintain his 100 per cent appearance rate at Cheltenham.
Before he can make his return, however, he needs to be given the all-clear by the British Racing Authoritys chief medical officer, Dr Michael Turner.
McCoy commented: "I've got to see Dr Turner, but my own doctor's very happy with it and I'd be hoping that the man who operated on me knows what he's on about. I'm going to start riding out in the morning.
"I'm going to ride out first lot for Carl (Llewellyn) and then for Jonjo (O'Neill) on Wednesday."
Dr Turner has indicated that he may wish to see the jockey independently assessed.
McCoy made his Cheltenham debut in 1996, winning his first race on Kibreet.
