Djibril Cisse's second-half header helped Sunderland beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at White Hart Lane as Juande Ramos' side continue to struggle in defence.

Cisse converted a precise pass from the left flank by Daryl Murphy and headed the ball past Heurelho Gomes.

It is Spurs' second 2-1 defeat of the season after they lost by the same score to Middlesbrough last week.

After a quiet first half Kieran Richardson sparked the game in to life with a goal ten minutes after the break. He picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and drilled it past Gomes.

Spurs responded immediately and should have equalised when David Bentley's free-kick fell to the feet of Jonathan Woodagte three yards out only for him to poke wide.

Jermaine Jenas did equalise after Luka Modric saw two shots saved. The ball broke to Jenas and he found the back of the net.

But Roy Keane's side would not be denied and the introduction of Cisse helped turn the game as the physical forward muscled his way in to the box and headed home the winner.

West Brom join Spurs as another side yet to get off the mark following their 2-1 defeat at home to Everton.

The Toffees dominated the second half and took the lead through Leon Osman after 65 minutes. The midfielder finishing an excellent move as Mikel Arteta was once more the creator behind Everton's goal.

Ten minutes later Yakubu Ayegbeni latched on to a long ball from Joleon Lescott to slide the ball past Scott Carson.

West Brom got a late consolation goal when Phil Neville handled in the box. Roman Bednar powered home the penalty but it was too little too late for Tony Mowbray's side.
