Cardiff City will be able to play in the Uefa Cup next season if they win the FA Cup final against Portsmouth.
Under Football Association (FA) rules, Cardiff would not have automatically qualified for the Uefa Cup, because being a Welsh team they would have to go through the Welsh Cup.
But the FA to decided through it's executive committee to change the rule and award Cardiff a Uefa Cup spot if the lift the trophy next month. But the Bluebirds will not qualify if they lose, and the Uefa Cup place will go to the team that finishes sixth in the Premier League.
"The Board has given full approval for Cardiff City to participate in next season's Uefa Cup as one of England's representatives, should they win this season's FA Cup," read an FA statement.
Today's news will give the Cardiff players extra motivation to beat Portsmouth at Wembley, and for the Welsh players in the squad they will also be able to sing their national anthem as the FA also decided the Welsh national anthem will be played at the showpiece event.
Cardiff have had an amazing run in the FA Cup this year and the final will be their first since 1927.
