Middlesbrough's Uefa Cup dream was shattered in Eindhoven as an impressive Seville side triumphed 4-0.
Though the scoreline flattered the Spanish outfit, who scored three goals in the last 12 minutes, Steve McClaren's men never looked up to the challenge.
Seville were quickly on top, with Daniel Alves firing just wide, and Adriano Correia and Luis Fabiano forcing interventions from Chris Riggott and Mark Schwarzer.
They deservedly took the lead on 26 minutes when Fabiano rose to meet Daniel Alves' devilish ball and power a header in off the bottom of the left post.
As Seville dominated, Middlesbrough had just one chance in the first period when Fabio Rochemback's stinging free kick was parried by Andres Palop.
Boro came out after the break with semi-final goal hero Massimo Maccarone on instead of James Morrison.
And the Teessiders had the half's first great chance when Mark Viduka met Riggott's header to fire straight at Palop from close range.
New England boss McClaren went for broke after 69 minutes, when the injured Franck Queudrue was replaced by Yakubu.
The changes spurred Boro, and Viduka was involved twice as Middlesbrough pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
He failed to hit the target when well-placed, then saw penalty appeals waved away when he went down under challenge from Javi Navarro after 76 minutes.
But former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Enzo Maresca struck the killer blow at the other end on 78 minutes when he tapped home after Schwarzer parried Frederic Kanoute's shot.
Maresca then repeated the trick six minutes later from 20 yards as the Boro fans saw their hopes fade.
Former Tottenham and West Ham striker Kanoute completed the rout in the 89th minute.
