Cardiff kept their playoff dreams alive with a 2-0 win over Barnsley in the Championship.

In-form striker Michael Chopra bagged his 17th goal of the season after Peter Whittingham had given the Welsh side an early lead.

The win was soured by a horror injury to Kevin McNaughton who was taken to hospital with back and neck injuries on the stroke of half-time.

Cardiff dominated and grabbed the lead on ten minutes when Chopra's deflected shot was headed in by Whittingham from six yards.

Three minutes before half-time, the Bluebirds doubled their lead when Chopra curled in a free-kick from 25 yards against his former club which goalkeeper Nick Colgan should have kept out.

Barnsley's best chance of the game fell to Daniel Nardiello's whose low shot from 20 yards flew just wide of the post.

McNaughton, who had only been on the field for five minutes after replacing Joe Ledley, was stretchered off wearing a neck brace after crashing head-first into the ground under a challenge.

The result sees the Bluebirds climb to fifth while Barnsley languish just one place above the drop zone.
