Sam Allardyce has admitted that he may swoop for Robbie Fowler if he does not agree a deal with Liverpool.
The Bolton boss is well aware that the Reds forward would prefer to remain at Anfield but hopes that Rafa Benitez will decide the Kop hero is surplus to requirements.
Fowler joined his former club in a deadline day season-long deal from Manchester City in January. The dream move delighted the Kop and the rest of football.
He has since strengthened his chances of securing a longer-term contract at the club he burst onto the scene with as a 17-year-old in the 1990s, by scoring three times in his six league starts since his return.
But Allardyce has revealed that should he not agree to stay at Liverpool, Fowler could be offered another chance at the Reebok.
"You'd always think about a goalscorer like him, but it would depend on the big numbers," Allardyce said.
"If he keeps on scoring for Liverpool, they will want to keep him.
"One of their problems has been scoring, but their defence is the ultimate and it is what we are trying to achieve."
Bolton are proven masters at signing fading internationals with players such as Jay Jay Okocha and Ivan Campo performing well for the club well into their 30s.
