Emmanuel Adebayor has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, putting an end to speculation linking him with a move away from the Emirates.

The 24-year-old Togo international was strongly linked with Barcelona and AC Milan this summer but announced earlier this month that he would be staying with Arsenal.

Adebayor, who scored 30 goals in 48 games last season, has now proved his commitment by signing a new deal which last until 2012.

"Arsenal can today confirm that Emmanuel Adebayor has signed a new long-term contract with the club," read an official club statement.

"Everyone at Arsenal looks forward to Emmanuel's continued contribution to the club over the coming years."

Adebayor only signed his previous contract in the summer of 2007 but has negotiated an improved deal, believed to earn him in the region of £80,000 a week.

The striker has received a mixed reception from Arsenal supporters, who feel he courted the interest from Milan and Barcelona.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that supporters should get behind Adebayor.

"We have to get behind him and support him," said Wenger. "He is a tremendous force and is of tremendous importance for the team - you want your own fans to be behind him.

"What happened in the transfer period did not always reflect his deep desire and there was manipulation from agents on both sides, but overall I am positive he will recover."
