Yorkshire secured their first victory of the Twenty20 season after coasting to a comfortable nine-wicket win over Durham in a rain-affected fixture at Headingley this evening.
Durham posted 65 for 9 in a match reduced to nine overs-a side as a result of the unseasonably wet weather, with one-day specialist Tim Bresnan making early inroads to send Philip Mustard (9) and Dale Benkenstein back to the pavilion.
Promising 22-year-old left-arm spinner David Wainwright also starred, dismissing New Zealand international Scott Styris for 27, before accounting for Ottis Gibson (3) and Gareth Breese (1) in an economical spell.
Former England stalwart Darren Gough helped to bring Durham's innings to a swift end, removing fast bowling peer Steve Harmison for a duck.
Conditions proved less taxing for the Yorkshire batsmen, with Gerard Brophy hitting a rapid 31 not out from 21 balls in a partnership with former Yorkshire captain Anthony McGrath (20) to see the Tykes home with 13 balls to spare.
Tonight's victory retains Yorkshire hopes of reaching the knock-out stages of the Twenty20 cup, which would continue what has been a successful season thus far.
Under the passionate captaincy of Gough, the side currently sits at the top of the LV County Championship division one after seven fixtures, having been defeated only once all season.
