Two people have been killed after a midair collision between two light aircraft in the Midlands, police have said.
One plane crashed in a field in Admaston, which lies between Uttoxeter and Stafford, after the contact at 12:15 GMT.
The second aircraft successfully made an emergency landing at East Midlands airport, 25 miles from the crash site.
The pilot, who was alone in the plane, has emerged unscathed.
Emergency services have confirmed the deaths of two people after eyewitnesses described the burnout wreckage of the aircraft in the Admaston field.
A Staffordshire police spokesman said the probe into the crash, being led by air accident investigators, was at a "very early stage".
The runway at East Midlands airport, which had been closed as the second aircraft landed, has now been reopened.
