Jonathan Trott found it hard to put into words how he felt after scoring a century on his Test match debut.
His 119 could be the innings that seals the series for England and the 28-year-old admitted to the whole experience feeling strange.
"In the first innings I was going well and the way I got out was surreal and today was even more so. Hopefully I can look back on a win at the end of the Test," he said.
Although he played down the importance of his knock: "Getting ten wickets over the next two is more important."
South African-born Trott has been in rampant form in county cricket this season and feels that he merits his call-up into the international set-up.
"I feel that I've put in the hard yards in county cricket and I feel like I deserved the opportunity," said the Warwickshire right-hander.
England struggled to find a breakthrough in the evening session with Australia ending on 80-0. But Trott has said that the Australian batsmen will struggle as the ball gets older.
"I definitely feel that the new ball comes on a lot easier," explained Trott.
"It's always nicer facing the new ball. The older ball seems to stick in the wicket and it's a lot harder to play against."
England now have two days to take ten wickets to regain the precious Ashes urn.
