Marcus Trescothick, who flew home from England's Ashes tour earlier this week, can recover from his stress-related illness and regain his place among the top batsmen in test cricket according to a Professional Cricketers' Association chief.
Richard Bevan, who has spoken to the opener since his return to the UK, claims that speculation the 30-year-old's international days are over is far from the mark.
"If he puts in the time, I'm sure he'll be back. He is focused on the problem he's got and wants to play again," Bevan told BBC Radio Five Live.
"The great thing about Marcus' situation is that the public are in support of him, so are his employers, he's got a good medical team and if he puts in the time, I'm sure he'll be back."
The Somerset left-hander has previously returned from a tour of India after suffering with the problem, but had hoped he had overcome the condition as he headed Down Under.
Middlesex's Ed Joyce has been summoned by chairman of selectors David Graveney to replace Trescothick in the campaign to defend the urn.
