Salford's Super League survival hopes look increasingly precarious after Shaun McRae's side suffered a 32-20 reverse at home to St Helens.
By contrast the league leaders kept on course for the double with a second-half charge that saw off the hosts after the teams had emerged form the interval locked together at 12-12.
At Belle Vue Hull beat Wakefield 42-24 in another fine second-half showing to reinforce their play-off place.
Wakefield lead 24-16 at the break but tries from Danny Tickle, Gareth Raynor, Matthew Head, Richard Whiting and Motu Tony powered Hull to victory as the Wildcats pair of Olivier Elima and Adam Watene both spent valuable time in the sin-bin.
Hull Kingston Rovers were soundly beaten by second-placed Leeds Rhinos who stormed to a 34-18 win in front of their home fans at Headingley.
Rovers, who remain the only other relegation candidates alongside Salford, never looked like taking a decisive step away from the drop-zone as Scott Donald starred for the hosts with two tries.
Ryan Hall, Matt Diskin, Clinton Toopi and Danny McGuire followed him over as Leeds snuffed out the visitors' revival at the start of the second half with some ruthless back play.
