Woman's body found on Hampshire motorway

Police have closed a section of the motorway
The body of a woman was discovered on a Hampshire motorway during the early hours of this morning.

A lorry driver alerted police at about 03:50 BST after spotting a body lying in the road on the M27.

Police closed off a westbound section of the motorway to carry out a thorough investigation into how the woman died.

Junctions 2 to 3 near Awer were closed. A bridge which goes over the motorway was also closed to the public.

A spokeswoman for Hampshire police said it was currently not known how the woman, believed to be in her earlier 20s, died.

Police teams are currently examining the scene and are appealing for any information.

The woman was described as white, with long red hair and dark jogging bottoms with a cream hooded top.
