Further rain is expected in the UK over the weekend, a day after torrential rains and flash floods disrupted transport services from the capital.
Yesterday the Met Office issued severe weather warnings of heavy snow and rain for the West Midlands, south-west England and London and the south-east. Parts of western England and the Midlands saw 30mm of rainfall yesterday and more showers are expected across the country today.
A spokesperson for the weather forecasting service said rain would extend "throughout all but the north of Scotland by tonight". Downpours are also expected in the west of the UK.
Heavy rain is expected in Scotland overnight with snow also expected in higher areas. The Met Office expects widespread rain tomorrow as well with heavy showers in the south-west of the country.
The Environment Agency has 48 flood warnings in place throughout the country with the Midlands, north-east and south-west of the country being considered the most vulnerable. A total of 109 flood watches are also in place with rivers in the Midlands, southwest and Thames most at threat.
Yesterday, both the M4 and M5 were affected by flooding brought on by the rains. Severe weather conditions also led to the temporary closing of Bristol airport.
