The Met Office has warned that snow and rain could create dangerous conditions on the road
The Met Office expects the east of England to be hit by severe weather today and tomorrow.
The weather forecaster said there was a moderate risk of extreme conditions over the break with snow and blizzards likely.
A spokesperson for the service stated there was a potential of between five and ten centimetres of "heavy snow" and warned of dangerous driving conditions tomorrow as icy roads and showers reduce grip on the roads
The service says the east of England, Yorkshire and Humber, East Midlands, south-west Scotland, Lothian and Borders, Orkney and Shetland, Grampian, Highlands and Eilean Siar and north-east England are likely to see severe weather today and tomorrow.
It also predicts heavy snow, strong winds and blizzard conditions on Tuesday over Orkney and Shetland and Grampian.
The RAC has warned travellers to expect more traffic on the roads over Easter due to the holiday falling early.
The transport body says that more families will be hoping to reach home before school openings meaning more congestion on the roads.
A spokesman for the North Yorkshire Police told the BBC: "There is plenty of snow and the major problem is with the roads. It is horrendous. The snow came down suddenly. Our advice is only drive if you really must. I drove six miles to work this morning and it was the worst I can remember for a long time.
"It is very icy and very cold. We have had no major incidents, just minor bumps, but it is not very nice out there," he added.
