The RMT union has warned Londoners of two strikes which could affect travel over the next few weeks.
London Underground's Victoria line staff will stage a 24-hour strike, from 21:30 BST on Monday October 5th to 21:29 BST on October 6th, in a dispute over the imposition of new rosters, which the union says significantly increases the workload on staff.
The RMT has also announced control room staff employed by Serco on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will take 48 hour strike action from 12:40 BST next Wednesday (September 30th) through to 12:39 BST on Friday.
The RMT say that union members voted overwhelmingly for strike action over work conditions.
Bob Crow, RMT general secretary, said: "The imposition of these new rosters is all about management trying to carve up the staff working day to fit in with bad decisions that they have made – particularly the botched opening of the new depot in Brixton.
"This underhand attempt to extract an extra 20 per cent from the working day out of our members has provoked this action on the Victoria Line and we would urge the management side to re-open serious negotiations to resolve this issue."
DLR staff will be striking over the imposition of new rosters also. Mr Crow added: "The strike action by Serco control staff on the Docklands Light Railway has been forced on our members by management's determination to impose new rosters which would hit our members work life balance and which would cost them up to 24 rest days a year.
"The proposed shift from a 12 hour roster to an eight hour roster represents a massive change in working conditions and cannot be bulldozed through without agreement."
