BA to increase fuel surcharges from May

British Airways will be increasing its fuel surcharges on all tickets
British Airways (BA) has today announced it will be increasing its fuel surcharges on all tickets issued from May 2nd.
A statement released by BA claimed the decision to increase prices reflected the "continuing high oil prices".
The announcement means that the surcharge for short-haul flights will increase by £3 per individual flight from £10 a flight to £13 a flight, or £26 for a return trip.
The charges for long-haul flights of less than nine hours will increase by £10 per individual flight from £53 to £63.
For long-haul flights of more than nine hours the surcharge will increase by £15 from £64 to £79, or £158 for a return trip.
BA said that it will also be increasing its fuel surcharges by similar levels in markets outside the UK.
Last year, BA was fined £121.5 million by the Office of Fair Trading and a further $300 (£152 million) by the US Department of Justice for acting together with Virgin on fixing the level of surcharges added to their ticket prices.
Virgin escaped similar punishment for bringing the situation to the attention of the authorities.
