Rafael Benitez has revealed Fernando Torres is winning his fitness battle to face Real Madrid next week.
The striker has not played since limping off in the Reds' 1-0 win over the Spanish champions at the Bernabeu.
Benitez said Torres should return for the second leg of the Champions League last 16 tie along with full-back Alvaro Arbeloa.
"He [Torres] is working hard with the physios and we now have two or three more training sessions before we have to make a decision," the Spaniard said.
"I think he can be close but each player is different. We just have to wait and see.
"Arbeloa is much the same as Torres and we will try to push him harder over the next couple of days."
Another player fighting to regain fitness in time for the clash at Anfield is Daniel Agger, who has a back problem.
Benitez added: "It will be harder for Agger but he too is working hard with the physios. All three could be close."
Four days after the match against Madrid, the Reds travel to Old Trafford for the clash with Manchester United. The Reds need to win against the champions to stay in the title race and overturn the seven
point gap.
Liverpool have the ideal preparation for next week's testing encounters with their early exit from the FA Cup meaning they have no match this weekend.
