The Conservatives have attempted to jump on the X Factor bandwagon and use the hype surrounding the Irish twins 'Jedward' to attack Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling.
Minutes after John and Edward Grimes were voted off the ITV talent show on Sunday night an advert was released depicting the prime minister and the chancellor as the young pair.
The picture features the tagline: "Jedward are gone, but we're still left with. Deadwood."

Remarkably though the advert is not the first time the singing duo have been used in a political attack.
Earlier this month Labour released a similar image with David Cameron and George Osborne's faces superimposed on the twins' bodies.
In that campaign the tagline read: "You won't be laughing if they win."

Both parties have rather embarrassingly found it necessary to comment on the images.
A Tory party spokesman is quoted as saying: "It's time for a general election to get rid of the government's deadwood.
"Labour's recent Queen's Speech was all about political games rather than taking the tough decisions Britain needs.
"The Conservative party has detailed plans to Get Britain Working and start reducing the country's record deficit, whilst Labour is focused on playing political games.
"Jedward's now out, it's time to get rid of deadwood Labour too."
However, a Labour Party spokesman is quoted as saying of the new Tory image: "We did this two weeks ago.
"This shows once again how Labour is leading the way in digital campaigning and the Tories are left scrabbling around playing catch up."
