Manchester City's record signing Carlos Tevez has raised sensational doubts about his future in the game by claiming he could retire from football next year.
According to translations of an interview the 25-year-old gave to Argentinean newspaper Ole, the striker is considering quitting football entirely if Argentina win the World Cup in South Africa.
"It crosses my mind to hang up my boots if we win the World Cup," Tevez reportedly said.
"It's complicated, there's my family, the desire to return to Boca Juniors. I'm keen to get a bit of calm. I've won a lot. Football has saturated me."
The all-action forward, who City could end up paying £47 million for following his move from Manchester United in the summer, added: "I'm a little tired of so much football, so much football... I want to enjoy my family a bit."
Tevez, who has struggled to become a regular for national coach Diego Maradona, had spells in South America with Boca Juniors and Corinthians before joining West Ham United in 2006.
Expectations at Eastlands were stratospheric after he crossed Manchester to sign for City and sign a contract until 2014. But he has struggled to replicate his Old Trafford form, scoring just one goal this season so far.
But with doubts lingering over the future of Robinho, Mark Hughes will be desperate to hold on to a big name like Tevez.
