Carlos Tevez opened his goalscoring account for new club Manchester City as they sealed a 2-0 victory over a hard-working Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
The Argentinean scored from a free header at close range as he rose to meet a Shaun Wright-Phillips corner with 20 minutes remaining.
Earlier, Wright-Phillips had opened the scoring when he scored with a rasping drive - beating Palace keeper Julian Speroni at his near post.
The game was also notable for the debut of new signing Joleon Lescott in defence, who had a busy night against the determined and, on occasion, dangerous-looking Championship side.
