Olympic gold medallist Tessa Sanderson has lent her support to World Indoor Championship hopeful Dwain Chambers.
The sprinter, who has made a controversial return to athletics after a two-year drugs ban, is eligible to take part in the event after winning the 60 metre sprint at the British team's indoor trial on Sunday.
However, UK Athletics could still prevent him from competing.
Speaking to BBC Sport Relief, Sanderson - who was awarded gold in the women's javelin event at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics - said: "He's served his ban, leave him alone, and let him get on with it.
"I happen to know Dwain and I think he is a nice guy but he made a big mistake and moved to America and got embroiled in the whole thing.
"He's been brought back into the sport and allowed back by the governing bodies and he understands that he has made a mistake. If he does well, get on with it."
Sanderson continued to speak out against the use of drugs in sport saying that she knew people she competed against were using illegal drugs.
However, the British star claims she was spurred on to work harder and beat them.
