Chelsea skipper John Terry has been charged with improper conduct following comments his made about referee Graham Poll in the wake of the Blues' defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Terry was shown a red card as his team succumbed 2-1 at White Hart Lane, but claimed in a post-match interview that he was ignorant as to the reason for his dismissal.
He then spoke out on Chelsea's own television channel claiming that the Tring official had given two different reasons for brandishing the red card.
"On the pitch Graham Poll said to me that it was for the barge on Hossam Ghaly where I just kept running," he told Chelsea TV.
"Then after the game he said to me it was for the fall when me and Ledley King fell so, you know, he's obviously had a look at it, or got people to look at it and decided that's probably the best option for him and it covers every angle for him."
However the FA have taken offence at the implication in the centre-back's comments: "This claim is denied by Graham Poll. The charge has been brought on the basis that Terry's comments question Poll's integrity," a statement read.
Manager Jose Mourinho also questioned the official's decision-making in the wake of his side's second Premiership loss of the season but has escaped censure.
Soho Square have set a deadline of December 15th for Terry to answer the charges.
