Chelsea captain John Terry says left-back Wayne Bridge will be missed at the club following his transfer to Manchester City.
Bridge became City's first major signing of the January transfer window when he sealed a £10 million move on Saturday.
Terry praised the England international for his professional approach despite struggling to get a regular game since the arrival of Ashley Cole to Stamford Bridge.
Bridge joined Chelsea in 2003 and was first-choice full-back in Claudio Ranieri's team until Cole's arrival prompted a loan spell at Fulham.
The Blues' captain says he understands Bridge's desire to get more first-team opportunities now that he has reached the age of 28.
"He'll be missed and I'm still in shock a little bit, because it's a shame to see one of the lads go who you have grown up with and been with a long time," said Terry.
"I'm disappointed but for him it was the right decision."
Terry believes City have bought an excellent player and expects Bridge to prove why he has earned 32 England caps despite his lack of first-team chances.
He said: "We understand he's been here and tried to break in to become a first-team regular but with him and Ashley [Cole] being the two best left-backs around by far, it was difficult for him to break through and get as many games as he liked.
"Once Bridgey starts playing people will realise how good he is."
Bridge is likely to make his debut for City on Saturday against Portsmouth.
