John Terry looks set to make his long-awaited return to the Chelsea line-up in Saturday's clash with Charlton.
The Blues skipper has missed the last ten games because of sugery on a spinal injury after the 1-0 win over Newcastle on December 13th.
Terry, 26, is not ready to return in Wednesday's home game with Blackburn but is expected to reclaim the captain's armband at the Valley this weekend.
Chelsea's club doctor Bryan English stressed the recovery time for a spinal injury is normally six months.
"Unfortunately bruising on the nerve results in a slower recovery time than we would have liked but now he's nearing a return," English said.
"It's the kind of problem that would have put him out for the rest of the season. It's been very difficult for him, but he's shown lots of mental and physical strength and we're already in the final stages.
"Nerve damage is such a frustrating injury. With muscle damage you can see it and feel it, but with nerve damage all you've got is muscles that are not working properly."
The Blues have sorely missed Terry in central defence, conceding ten goals in his absence.
Terry is also expected to sign a new £150,000-a-week deal to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge, according to newspaper reports.
