Sony has claimed an error which affected PlayStation 3 consoles around the world has now been resolved.
On Monday gamers received an error code when attempting to connect to the PlayStation 3's online service, the PlayStation Network (PSN).
The error stopped the majority of PS3 consoles from connecting online, although the more recent "slim" models were unaffected.
The fault appeared reminiscent of the apocryphal Millennium Bug, with affected consoles reported to have had their calendars reset to December 31st 1999.
In a blog post last night Sony's Patrick Seybold apologised for the error but said it had now been resolved and PS3 users should be able to use their consoles as normal.
"We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, recognised the year 2010 as a leap year. Having the internal clock date change from February 29th to March 1st, we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally," he said.
"We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused."
