Gordon Brown launches YouTube version of prime minister's questions
Gordon Brown has launched an online version of prime minister's questions in a bid to reach digital-era voters.

The prime minister is inviting internet users to send in questions via the Downing Street channel on YouTube by June 21st.

"Politicians get a chance in prime minister's question time and other question times - I think it's time the public had a chance," Mr Brown says in an introductory video.

No 10 is describing the new service as a "personal prime minister's question time", which will be a "regular Q&A session".

"Here's your chance to ask the prime minister about whatever is on your mind," a message on the webpage says.

"Submit your questions now and come back soon to vote on your favourites. Gordon will answer the top-voted questions right here on YouTube at the end of June."

The new YouTube feature comes as Mr Brown reiterates Britain's commitment to the technology industry.

Speaking at Google's Zeitgeist conference in London, the prime minister stressed the importance of the UK retaining the "light touch framework" to maintain its position as a world leading in the technology and creative industries.

Mr Brown is not the first British politician to embrace the internet. Conservative leader David Cameron has maintained a video blog at webcameron since he became party helmsman in December 2005.End of story
