According to the Sun newspaper, the man fled past Boyle and her companion after being discovered on Tuesday night.
It is not known whether Boyle stayed at her childhood home after the encounter with the intruder; but a man was later detained in connection with the incident.
But speaking outside her home on Wednesday, the singer told fans: "I'm fine. It's in the hands of the police now."
A police statement said: "Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses after a male youth was disturbed while within a house in West Lothian. The incident happened around 9:40pm in Yule Terrace, Blackburn.
"The female occupant of the house returned to find the male leaving the property. Upon entering her home, the woman noticed that some items had been disturbed and police were called."
The statement confirmed a 16-year-old male had been detained and questioned in connection with the incident before being released without charge.
