Defending Twenty/20 champions Middlesex got off to a losing start as they went down to a 57 run loss to Surrey.
Surrey captain Usman Afzaal struck a masterful 98 not out off just 59 balls and Mark Ramprakash added 61 and as the pair shared in an unbroken stand of 139 as Surrey hit 186-1.
Middlesex were never in the hunt as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Tyrone Henderson top-scored with 32, but Middlesex ended on 129-7 as Chris Schofield took three wickers for Surrey.
Elsewhere, Somerset edged-out Glamorgan by one run to claim victory at Sophia Gardens. Somerset struggled to 113 from their 20 overs with Zander de Bruyn top-scoring with 70.
Glamorgan looked on course for an easy win as they got 94-4, but the game was turned on its head by young Somerset spinner Max Waller, who claimed three wickets in two overs and needing 15 runs from three overs, Glamorgan fell one run short.
Hampshire cruised to a nine wicket victory over Sussex at the Rose Bowl. Sussex set a competitive total of 133-8 with Dwayne Smith hitting 63.
But Hampshire eased to the win as they got to 137-1 in just 16.1 overs with James Adams hitting 68 and Sean Ervine adding 42.
Northamptonshire defeated Warwickshire by 17 runs. Nicky Boje (45), Niall O'Brien (42) and Rob White (40) helped Northants set a total of 176-6.
Warwickshire were in with a shout of winning with Jim Troughton at the crease on 53. But then veteran Australian Ian Harvey won the game for Northants as he claimed four wickets for just 18 runs as Warwickshire ended on 159-8.
Mitch Claydon was the hero for Durham as he hit the last ball for four to secure his side victory over Nottinghamshire.
Will Jefferson had earlier hit 75 and Chris Read 43 not out helped Nottinghamshire to 163-6. Durham were easing to a win with Ian Blackwell (59) and Dale Benkenstein (53), but then had a collapse. But luckily Claydon came to the rescue with a crucial knock of nine.
Worcestershire spinner Ian Fisher claimed a hat-trick as his side beat Gloucestershire by 23 runs. Worcester reached 145-7 from their 20 overs and then bowled out Gloucestershire for just 122.
Michael Vaughan hit 35 to help Yorkshire to a three wicket win over Leicestershire, who had set a total of 148-3 with HD Ackermen adding an unbeaten 66. Yorkshire got to the total by losing seven wickets and one ball to spare.
The weather put an end to the game between Essex and Kent, with only 3.2 overs being bowled in the second innings of the match.
