Wigan moved out of the relegation zone with a hard-fought win over Everton at the JJB Stadium.
Henri Camara's strike six minutes into the second-half proved the decisive moment of a disappointing contest.
Camara, who had been introduced as a half-time substitute for the ineffectual Olivier Kapo, met Antonio Valencia's cross, after the winger had beaten Joleon Lescott.
Dovid Moyes' side should have taken the lead after 14 minutes when Louis Saha raced clear but shot straight at Chris Kirkland in the Wigan goal.
Wilson Palacios and Ryan Taylor both went closed before Palacios missed Eigan's best opportunity when he headed over from five yards out.
Lee Cattermole forced a full-length save from Tim Howard on the stroke of half-time, and the American was again forced to be at his best when saving from the resulting corner when he produced an outstanding reflex save from Paul Scharner's close-range header.
Moyes would looked for an improvement in the second-half, but his side soon found themselves a goal behind thanks to Steve Bruce's inspired substitution.
Substitute Victor Anichebe went close with 20 minutes remaining, but Wigan looked comfortable until stoppage time when Tim Cahill put a left-footed shot over the bar when he should have done better.
Wigan's win moves them up to 15th in the table, while Everton's run of five games without defeat comes to an end.
