It was 15th time lucky for Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday as a Darren Bent hat-trick inspired the home side to a 4-0 win over Bolton for Steve Bruce's side's first league victory this year.
The Black Cats had failed to win in their previous 14 games but got off to the perfect start when former Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell scored the fastest goal of the season.
Owen Coyle's Bolton, impressive 2-1 winners at West Ham at the weekend, clung on until the second half but were undone when Bent was put through before slotting past Jussi Jaaskelainen.
The sometime England striker grabbed his second when he dusted himself off from a Sam Ricketts - who was sent off - foul in the box to fire home from the penalty spot, completing his 22-minute hat-trick shortly after with another tidy finish.
The win sees Sunderland replace Bolton in 13th place with the Trotters one point behind on 29 points having played a game more.
