Andrew Strauss is on course for a century as England closed on 121-4 in the final Test against the West Indies at Durham.
Strauss is unbeaten on 72 as England lost a flurry of wickets in the final 15 minutes on day three.
The Windies had earlier been bowled out for 287 thanks to a century from Shivnarine Chanderpaul while Ryan Sidebottom finished with 5-88.
Chanderpaul continued his sensational form on the tour with an unbeaten 136 which included 19 boundaries as the wickets tumbled at the other end.
The tourists added just nine to their overnight total before Bravo (44) was on his way. The all-rounder had been bamboozled by two previous swinging deliveries from Hoggard and eventually dragged onto his stamps with a pull shot.
Samuels, a late call-up to the squad, made a wretched 19 off 64 balls before losing his balance and being bowled by Sidebottom to leave the Windies on 199-6.
Paul Collingwood produced a stunning catch at second slip to dismiss wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin, giving Sidebottom his fourth wicket.
Harmison grabbed his second wicket after a clumsy pull stroke from Daren Powell (5) and Sidebottom grabbed his fifth victim after removing Fidel Edwards' off-stump to leave the Windies on 229-9.
But the Windies showed some resistance in their last-wicket partnership to frustrate the England bowlers.
Chanderpaul notched up his 16th Test ton with a boundary and kissed the pitch in celebration after another dogged display.
The last wicket to fall was Corey Collymore who was trapped lbw for 13 by Monty Panesar, leaving Chanderpaul unbeaten at the crease having faced 257 balls.
England made a steady start until Alistair Cook edged a darting delivery from Fidel Edwards to Ramdin to leave the hosts on 37-1.
Strauss and Vaughan then put on second-wicket stand of 73 to punish some erratic bowling from Collymore and Powell.
Vaughan reached 19 before prodding at an outswinger from Edwards which was snapped up by Bravo at second slip.
The dismissal of the England captain sparked a mini-collapse as England went from 110-1 to 121-4.
Hoggard came in as a nightwatchman and lasted just four balls before falling to Collymore for a duck.
Rather than sending out a second nightwatchman, Kevin Pietersen surprisingly came to the crease. He lasted only five balls before an attempted pull shot found an underside edge and flew straight to Ramdin for Edwards' third wicket.
