A consortium led by Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie is in negotiations to buy out the financially troubled Premier League club, it has been revealed.
In a statement this afternoon, the club confirmed Storrie is heading up a new bid that would see Fratton Park come under his ownership and effectively remove the shackles that have caused such unrest over the summer.
"A new consortium led by chief executive officer Peter Storrie is in negotiations with the owner of Portsmouth FC to buy the Premier League club," the statement reads.
"The group is very positive about the talks and are confident that the deal can be completed."
Arabian businessman Sulaiman Al Fahim had hoped to lead a buyout of the south coast outfit over the summer but various hold-ups have put the deal - and Portsmouth's solvency and Premier League status - in doubt.
And it has now emerged that Al Fahim could now take a back seat, although he will remain involved.
"Sulaiman Al Fahim may partner the new consortium through Al Fahim Asia Associates," the statement added.
Portsmouth's money troubles have been well documented over the past year.
The high-profile sale of star players such as Lassana Diarra, Jermaine Defoe, Peter Crouch and Glen Johnson were publicly acknowledged as being financially driven in order to clear some of the mounting debts hanging over the club.
