Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been arrested following a suspected assault, inthenews.co.uk has learned.
A statement from Merseyside police confirmed officers attended a disturbance at a licensed premises on Bold Street in Southport in the early hours of this morning.
Six men were arrested on suspicion of section 20 assault on Lord Street, police said.
The men, four aged 33, 31, 29 and 19, who all come from the Huyton area, a 28-year-old man from Fornby and an 18-year-old man from Litherland were arrested early on Monday.
inthenews.co.uk has learned that Gerrard, 28, is among the six men arrested.
He is still in custody at a police station on Merseyside with the other five suspects and is due to be questioned later today.
A 34-year-old man from Southport was taken to hospital with facial injuries following the alleged incident, although they are not thought to be life threatening.

Hours before the alleged assault England international Gerrard had played a starring role in Liverpool's 5-1 demolition of Newcastle United at St James' Park.
