Sri Lanka look likely to end their run of Test warm-ups in defeat after collapsing to 68-5 against England A at Worcester.
They are still 12 runs behind the hosts, who were inspired on the second day be England hopeful Jon Lewis.
Lewis took his wicket tally for the match to eight with the scalps of Michael Vandort and Thilan Samaraweera.
With Simon Jones today following Steve Harmison and James Anderson onto the injury list, the paceman looks likely to get a call-up for the first Test at Lord's next Thursday.
England A had looked in trouble after falling from 225-4 to 259 all out, despite Rob Key's 63 and starts from Ed Joyce (49) and Ravi Bopara (41).
They were crusing before Alex Loudon was caught at short mid-on for 31.
Nuwan Kulasekara (4-83) and Farveez Maharoof (3-41) ripped into the middle order.
Bopara offered Tillakaratne Dilshan a return catch, and in the next over wicket-keeper Chris Read was unluckily dismissed lbw for a duck to Kulasekara.
Rikki Clarke continued the descent when he was also dismissed without scoring in Dilshan's next over.
With the match looking evenly poised, England A's bowlers did not take long to get on top.
Lewis gave England A an immediate boost by having Vandort lbw in the first over.
Upul Tharanga was the next to go when he chopped on from Clarke - and Sangakkara's entertaining innings of 27 was halted when he chipped Bopara's slower ball to Key at mid-on.
Sangakkara's dismissal was the first of three wickets to fall in eight overs, including captain Mahela Jayawardene via a dubious lbw to young pace bowler Stuart Broad.
