Auxerre centre-back Younes Kaboul looks set to become Martin Jol's latest acquisition at Tottenham Hotspur after officials at the French club confirmed a move was in the offing.
The France under-21 captain has attracted admirers from across the continent for his composed marshalling of the Ligue 1 outfit's backline, but it appears that Spurs have won the race for his signature.
"The negotiations are very advanced. The discussions are very serious with Tottenham but there are still a number of details to finalise," said Auxerre vice-chairman Gerard Bourgoin.
"But we can remain optimistic about the end of the negotiations," he continued as he looked forward to a reported £8.2 million injection into the club's coffers from the sale.
Rangers, Inter Milan and Roma were all said to be tracking Kaboul's progress with a view to tempting him away from the Stade L'Abbe-Deschamps.
Kaboul will face a battle for a place at the heart of the Tottenham defence with the young English combination of Michael Dawson and Ledley King already well-established.
Should the details of the deal be sewn up without any problems, then Kaboul will join another highly-rated defensive prospect, Gareth Bale, and become the club's second venture into the summer market.
