Kim Clijsters might have only just come out of a two-year period of retirement but she tonight proved that she has not lost the useful art of defeating the formidable Venus Williams.
The Belgian's performance during her 6-0, 0-6, 6-4 US Open fourth round victory proved that she isn't the shy, retiring type when it comes to upsetting the form book.
But perhaps the result wasn't so unexpected - Clijsters beat the elder Williams sister at this same event in 2005 and will now face Li Na of China in the last eight.
Although seeded third, Williams, who has lifted the Flushing Meadows trophy twice in her career, seems now to be a player who is only capable of mounting a serious challenge on the grass courts of Wimbledon.
Her sister Serena is still a serious contender on all surfaces and remains the favourite to retain her title, a view which will have been reinforced by her 6-2 6-0 thrashing of Daniela Hantuchova.
Britain's Laura Robson, who was one match away from qualifying for the Ladies' singles competition, won her opening round match in the Junior Girls' singles 6-0, 6-1.
