Hull City have launched a £7 million bid for
Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell.
Campbell scored 15 goals while on loan at the Tigers last season, helping them clinch promotion to the Premier League.
The 20-year-old started in United's opening league game against
Newcastle United, but has been on the bench for the last two matches including last night's 2-1 loss to Zenit St Petersburg in the Super Cup.
If United clinch the signing of
Tottenham Hotspur's Dimitar Berbatov by Monday's transfer deadline, it could persuade Sir Alex Ferguson to sell Campbell.
Hull chairman Paul Duffen said at the same time, Louis Saha's departure from Old Trafford to
Everton could mean Campbell will get more games.
"The complexities of their situation are that it depends on them getting one in, that one might well be Bulgarian [Berbatov]," he said.
"As I said all the way through the summer we need to be respectful of that and there's nothing I can do to force the situation.
"If they do bring someone in I want to be at the front of the queue and I will do whatever it takes to bring him to the football club.
"They'll be a lot of people alluding to the fact we've got carried away with ourselves. But I can absolutely guarantee that I'm here for the long term building the football club."
Meanwhile, Phil Brown's side have announced the signing of
Sunderland defender Paul McShane on a season-long loan.
