O'Sullivan plans technique overhaul
Ronnie O'Sullivan says he is planning to overhaul his entire game as he claims his inconsistent play is causing him to lose his love for snooker.
'The Rocket' says that although he can still compete and win tournaments despite not playing his best it is not good enough for him personally.
He explained: "I'm not being big-headed but I can win events playing 60 per cent. I can cover up problems with instinctive snooker but that's no good to me.
"Over the next 18 months or so I'm going to rip my game apart in the same way that I did after I lost to David Gray in the first round of the [2000] world championship. I can't accept carrying on playing so badly."
He said that he wanted to improve the mechanics of his technique to have something to fall back on if he feels he is not playing up to his own expectations.
"Unless I reach the standard I know I'm capable of I just don't enjoy the game at all," said the two-time world champion.
O'Sullivan said he did not care if it destroyed his game in the long run as he feels he cannot go on playing the way he is at the moment.
Earlier O'Sullivan progressed to the third round of the Welsh Open with a 5-1 over Ian McCulloch.
Former world champion Shaun Murphy also progressed with a 5-0 win over Jamie Cope.
Murphy attained a record in the match by becoming the first player to ever make four consecutive centuries in a best-of-nine-frame match during a ranking event.
