Overnight leader Lee Westwood has slipped down to joint sixth place at the halfway stage of the Andalucian Open in Aloha.
Westwood carded 73 to lie on six under, two strokes behind leaders Peter Hedblom and Matthew Millar.
Swede Hedblom sank an eagle at the fifth in his round of 67 to lie on eight under with Australian Millar.
They lead English duo Richard Dinwiddie and David Lynn, along with Frenchman Thomas Levet by one stroke.
Westwood, who needed three shots from six feet at the 18th, admitted he struggled with his reading of the course.
"The greens are a bit trickier - they get a bit iffy," Westwood said.
"I probably deserved better than 73, but you have days like that."
Rookie Dinwiddie carded the best round of the day with his 65, which included eight birdies, to lie on seven under.
The 25-year-old said: "I've been looking forward to playing the European Tour since I was a kid."
Former Ryder Cup player Levet would have been joint leader but bogeyed the 18th.
Bradley Dredge, who finished alongside Westwood on six under, needs to win the tournament to move into the world's top 50 in time to earn a place in the Masters.
Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke missed the cut after rounds of 73 and 76.
