Warnock wants chat with referees

Sunday, 24 Dec 2006 16:53
The Blades are two points off the drop zone
Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock wants managers to have a "face to face" meeting with referees after the final whistle.

The outspoken Blades manager confronted referee Graham Poll after the 3-1 defeat to Portsmouth yesterday at Fratton Park.

Warnock was furious that Poll allowed Sol Campbell's equaliser from a corner as defender Chris Morgan appeared to be pushed.

The United manager wanted to have a meeting with Poll after the game to discuss his decisions but he had already left.

Warnock said he will take up the matter with referees' chief Keith Hackett.

"We'll probably have to chat with Keith Hackett and see if there is the possibility of having a time they can stay - because we're told [to wait] 30 minutes after the game," Warnock said.

"We go in after 30 minutes and they say it's too early, so we speak to the cameras and go back and he's gone.

"So perhaps we need clarifying when we can see them or not."

Poll is not on Warnock's Christmas card list after a number of controversial incidents involving the Blades.

In 2003, Poll collided with midfielder Michael Tonge in the build-up to Arsenal's winning goal in the FA Cup semi-final.

Last month, Warnock said Poll has "things regarding his persona that could be changed" after the Tring official sent off Chelsea's John Terry in the Blues' 2-1 defeat to Tottenham. End of story
