Three people have died from injuries sustained during a crash at the Isle of Man TT race today.
The crash occurred towards the end of the senior race, which traditionally completes the events line-up at the famous motorbike event.
A bike swerved out of control at the 26th milestone on the mountain stage and the rider was killed instantly.
Two spectators also died, one was confirmed dead at the scene and the second died later from their injuries after being taken to nearby Nobles hospital. Another two people are also being treated in hospital.
According to a statement from the Manx Motor Cycle Club (MMCC), the organisers of the TT races the coroner of inquest has been informed and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is underway.
The MMCC also wished to "express their sympathy to the families and friends of those involved".
The Manx TT race usually draws a crowd of around 30,000 spectators throughout the course of the event although organisers say that as many as double this number may have attended this year because it marked the 100th running of the races.
Despite its popularity, the TT races have endured their fair share of controversy over the years with several competitors dying as a result of accidents around the challenging course, which circles the entire island.
