David Beckham has been ordered to pay a $1,000 (£600) fine after confronting an abusive fan during a recent game for Los Angeles Galaxy.
The England midfielder was barracked by a group of fans throughout the Galaxy's recent friendly with AC Milan and at one point appeared to gesture a member of the crowd to come down to the playing surface.
Beckham was restrained by security staff while one supporter was arrested.
In a statement confirming Beckham's punishment, Major League Soccer (MLS) commissioner Don Garber said: "Our players should never engage in conduct that can be interpreted as encouraging fans to come out of the stands and on to the field, regardless of the reason."
Beckham, 34, has received a hostile response from some LA Galaxy fans having missed part of the MLS season while on loan with Milan.
But despite the boos, the free-kick specialist has insisted he plans to remain in the US.
"At the end of the day, I play my game, whether I get booed or not doesn't matter to me," he commented.
"But I don't like my family seeing that and hearing that [abuse], from an organised group of fans.
"I think it was disrespectful, some of the things that were being said and also some of the banners, but it is what it is."
