Manchester United have launched an official complaint to the Football Association (FA) regarding their ticket allocation for an upcoming fixture.
Under FA rules, United should be entitled to 15 per cent of Manchester City's Etihad Stadium for their third-round cup tie on January 8th, which would give them 7,100 seats.
However, the club claim that City have allocated them 5,500 - just over 11 per cent - on the grounds of safety.
United have special dispensation from the FA, due to Old Trafford's 76,000 capacity, to offer just over 11 per cent to visitors, equating to 8,500 tickets.
The club are now seeking their full entitlement for the tie against their closest rivals, which will be the first time the two have met in the competition since 1995.
United currently sit second in the Premier League on 39 points with 12 wins from their first 16 matches. City are top of the league, two points ahead of their neighbours.
