The future of one of England's top strikers remains in the balance today, with his preferred two clubs remaining out of the race to sign him.
Newcastle United forward Michael Owen is holding out for an offer from one of the Premier League's big names - possibly Aston Villa or Everton - but with his contract on Tyneside set to expire today he is still no closer to finding a club.
Having received the full £80 million balance due for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid today, Manchester United could continue their spending spree this month.
Sir Alex Ferguson has already signed Antonio Valencia from Wigan Athletic this summer and next on the United boss' wish list looks to be Lyon's Karim Benzema.
Elsewhere, Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce will offer former Everton winger Andy van der Meyde a route to resurrecting his career following his release by the Toffees.
