Leicester City are still hoping to secure the services of Dutch legend Edgar Davids. City chairman Milan Mandaric has confirmed that the player's wages are not an issue and that the deal should be wrapped up within the next few days.
He said: "We have been in conversation for two or three weeks with him and his agent. We should know in the next couple of days if we can bring him to our squad. He's a high-profile footballer who would be welcome at an ambitious club like Leicester City.
"We wouldn't bring him here unless he could help on the field. It's one thing bringing a high-profile name but we need him to help us on the field. We have a talented squad but this would be an improvement - but only on the condition that he is fit."
Chelsea have added another name to their wish list in the form of Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik. If the London club manage to suspend their transfer ban they may look to Italy to secure one of their transfers in January.
Hamsik has been touted as one of the most promising midfielders in Europe.
Everton have also joined the race to sign Middlesbrough winger Adam Johnson following intense interest from Sunderland. David Moyes would be extremely interested to sign the youngster, with move giving him potential cover in a stretched midfield.
