Liverpool's week has just lurched from bad to catastrophic with the news that Real Madrid are considering a £30m bid in the summer for their captain Steven Gerrard.
Liverpool have well documented financial worries which will make any large bid worthwhile by the Spanish club, added to the fact that Liverpool may struggle to qualify for the Champions League this season and it appears this story may be more than just wild speculation.
Meanwhile Chelsea are waiting to receive the go-ahead to embark on an unprecedented £60m spending spree in January. Chelsea are hoping that their transfer ban can be suspended while they appeal the decision made by Fifa and if so will move to purchase enough players to make the ban irrelevant.
Surprisingly though, Emile Heskey's name has been thrown into the mix as a possible replacement for Didier Drogba. Other players expected to move in January include Daniele de Rossi, Sergio Aguero and David Villa.
Leeds have had to move and place a £3 million tag on their star striker Jermaine Beckford following interest from a number of clubs over the past few weeks. QPR, Newcastle and Benfica have all been mooted as possible destinations for the prolific forward.
Arsenal have entered into the race to sign injured West Ham right back Valon Behrami. The Gunners may have to contend with AC Milan who have also expressed an interest.
