The transfer rumour mill is now in full swing, with a goalkeeper merry-go-round being discussed at length in sports newsrooms across the country.
A possible move to Blackburn Rovers for Tottenham Hotspur stopper Paul Robinson has had a domino effect on various clubs' incumbent number ones.
Robinson, who is due to move as part of a big-money deal for Spurs to take England international David Bentley to London, may oust the ageing Brad Friedel from the Rovers first team.
And the American could be set to join his countryman Brad Guzan to compete for the starting job at Aston Villa.
The Chivas USA custodian is highly-rated by Martin O'Neill and looks likely to link up with the Northern Irishman at Villa Park as long as he receives a work permit.
Reading are due to lose a number of first-team players to interested Premier League clubs, with defender Nicky Shorey, midfielder Stephen Hunt and striker Dave Kitson all set to move.
West Ham United, Fulham and Stoke City, respectively, are interested in the above three, with a total income of around £12 million to be garnered by the Royals for the three.
